Tripadvisor x San Diego Tourism Authority Campaign
TripAdvisor’s in-house creative studio, Wanderlab, in partnership with San Diego Tourism Authority and their respective agency, The Shipyard, approached me to join in a national campaign to drive tourism to San Diego in spring 2023. After a long pandemic pause on tourism, the campaign drove new viewers to plan or book travel and explore a wide variety of San Diego experiences while providing Tripadvisor and San Diego Tourism Authority first-party data and traveller insights to create stronger touch points and better engagement. The partnership was estimated to deliver over 53 million impressions.
Three San Diego-based joy-evoking artists, including myself, were invited to activate the campaign in one of three major U.S. cities—Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York—via immersive street murals and media kits. My component of the campaign consisted of a mural design + install, as well as a media kit design, which was expanded to other various media materials.
The mural I created was located in the iconic neighborhood of Lower East Side, Manhattan at 108 Ludlow Street for the campaign duration. Prominently featured is San Diego Tourism Authority’s warm, invitational tagline, “Happiness is Calling,” surrounded by recognizable San Diego locations that bring me joy: lunch walks on Ocean Beach pier, jazz nights in Balboa Park, taco/art crawls around Barrio Logan, date nights at The Rady Shell, and family boardwalk bike rides.
