Joan's Hands Mural
Ithaca, New York: Friends Johanna and Zach renovated an 1870’s Italianate style house in Ithaca, New York. With the intention of turning their upstairs unit into a rental, they commissioned me to create a mural for the yard to draw attention to their advertisement and illustrate neighborhood pride.
Inspiration flowed during the visit: We took neighborhood walks to collect local flora for mural inspo, and interacted with the neighbors daily. I was delighted to meet 80-year old neighbor, Joan, who still gets outside daily to tend to her beautiful, intricate garden. The mural juxtaposes old with new, calls attention to the dynamic seasons of upstate, and is dedicated to Joan.
