So Good Mural
A good friend and fellow creative, Rodrigo, met with me over coffee to tell me about a unique opportunity he wanted me to be involved in. When first hearing about this opportunity, I became suspicious that he was recruiting me into a pyramid scheme. But I decided to hear him through, and quickly realized that if this was a pyramid scheme, than it was the coolest, most authentic, pyramid scheme ever. Spoiler alert: it didn’t turn out to be a scheme.
Turns out, it’s just an innovative approach to doing good as a creative. Meet Good Measure: a group of volunteer creatives that have organized to create a nomadic agency that helps non-profits through creative services like branding, design, videography, and development.
Every quarter of the year, Good Measure selects a city and a design agency within that city to host the project via a “72-hour design sprint” (in San Diego’s case it was Basic Agency and our San Diego recipient/client was Humble Design, that, according to their mission, “serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming their empty house into a warm, welcoming and uplifting home with donated furniture and household goods.”
Over 72 hours, we provided a brand refresh for them and simultaneously activated our first ever mural component to the design sprint. The mural was a 1275 sf wall downtown designed and created in collaboration the Good Measure team. The mural reads ‘So Good,’ which serves as a reminder to the community that goodness exists all around us and we all have opportunities every day to do good despite our circumstances. Rodrigo had a cool idea to highlight the letters ‘S’ and ‘D’ in the mural, pushing the concept that “good” sits within “S(an) D(iego).
